4/8/2026 - NOTICE: Watch out for aggressive duck behavior at District ponds

Dear Brushy Creek residents and visitors,

We’ve had a report of a Muscovy duck at Shirley McDonald Park acting aggressively by approaching, hissing, and nipping at passersby. While we love the wildlife that’s part of The Brushy Creek Lifeit’s a good reminder to stay aware while you’re out visiting our ponds.

A few quick tips:

  • Give ducks plenty of space, and back away calmly if one approaches.

  • Feeding them can lead to aggressive behavior.

  • Keep kids close by when near the water.

  • If a duck follows or acts territoriallyit’s best to leave the area.

Texas Parks & Wildlife and Humane Society both note that feeding waterfowl can increase aggression and territorial behavior.

A little caution helps keep our shared spaces safe and enjoyable for people and wildlife alike.
